What is on the Str8ts sheets?

Each sheet shows a 9×9 Str8ts with its black cells, clue numbers and given digits. The usual rules apply: no digit repeats in a row or column, and every compartment of white cells forms a straight of consecutive numbers in any order. The Str8ts guide explains them with worked examples.

Every puzzle comes from the same generator as the online game and was checked twice, once by the generator and once more by a separate solver, so each has exactly one solution.

Which level should you print?

The levels are graded by the techniques a puzzle needs, not by how many clues it shows, and every puzzle can be finished with the techniques explained on the Str8ts page, on paper as well as online.

• Easy: little more than single candidates; good for beginners and short breaks.
• Medium: regular stranded and required digits; note candidates as you go.
• Hard: long chains of compartment logic and now and then an advanced step.
• Expert: at least three advanced steps, such as naked pairs or high/low checks.

Build your own Str8ts PDF

With the pack builder above you choose the level, how many puzzles you want (up to 50), how many go on a page (1, 2 or 4), the paper size (A4 or US Letter) and whether to add the solution pages. The puzzles are made and checked in your browser for that pack; nothing is uploaded.

To print a single puzzle, use the online game: "Print this puzzle" under the grid makes a PDF of the puzzle you are playing, with its solution on the second page.

Tips for solving Str8ts on paper

A soft pencil and an eraser beat a pen. Write candidates small in the corners of the cells, and in long compartments note the required digits first: a five-cell compartment always holds a 5.

• Two puzzles per page leave room for notes; four per page saves paper.
• Keep the solution pages aside, or leave them out of your own PDF.
• Save the PDF to print clean copies of the same puzzles again later.
